Greg & Jimmy Hall at Glasgow High School

Greg Martin and Jimmy Hall Perform at GHS

By Teresa Bell Kindred

Students at Glasgow High School were entertained recently by two top notch
performers. Greg Martin is well known in this area as a member of The Kentucky
HeadHunters. To date the HeadHunters have released 8 albums, winning countless
awards and a Grammy.

Jimmy Hall is a talented vocalist from Nashville who performed
with a group called Wet Willie back in the 70´s. That group toured with
Aerosmith, the Allman Brothers Band, Grand Funk Railroad and the Grateful Dead.  Hall
was later nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Male Rock Vocalist for Jeff
Beck´s 1985 Flash Album. In recent years, Hall joined Hank Williams Jr´s
touring band playing the sax and harmonica.

The two musicians performed several songs for Glasgow students,
including "Keep On Smilin' ," which Jimmy wrote and performed when he was with
Wet Willie. They also spoke to students about the dangers of drugs and alcohol
and discussed rock groups and musicians they knew personally who had
succumbed to temptations that eventually cost them their lives.

John Fred Young and Ben Wells of Black Stone Cherry dropped in for a visit
and reiterated the importance of being drug/free.

“Whatever your dreams are, you can have it all. If you work hard and remain
drug free,’ said John Fred.

Black Stone Cherry recently signed a recording contract with Road Runner
Records and will have a new album out later this year. Chris Robertson and Jon
Lawhon are the other two band members, but they were not able to attend the GHS
program.

Greg and Jimmy have teamed up to form The Mighty Jeremiahs and have recently
released a Gospel Blues CD through ear X-tacy Records and Burnside
Distribution.
